Earning money for filling out simple surveys is something that anyone can do. I usually do mine while I am watching TV in the evenings after the kids go to bed! If you are looking to make a little extra money, you should check out the following online survey sites:

MindField is one of the survey sites I most enjoy because the surveys they give you are fast & payment is good (pays $1-$8). The main thing is to fill them out as soon as you get them because once the quota is met, you won’t be able to complete them! Payout is only $5.

Opinion Square is another great survey site. You’ll have to see if you qualify for a survey, but even if you don’t qualify, you will still get something out of it. Opinion Square awards Tokens when you don’t qualify. The Tokens can be used to play games to win even more points (everyone is a winner). So, it is like getting points without even having to do surveys! Points can be used to buy all sorts of Gift Cards and gift items. $10 GC will cost you about 2,800 pts but you accrue them pretty quickly!

Inbox Dollars
As featured on the Good Morning America TV Show, Inbox Dollars will pay members to read e-mail, take surveys, play games, shop online, and more! As a special bonus, anyone that joins NOW will receive a quick $5 in their account just by filling out their user profile, so signup right now for FREE.

MyPoints
Since I have been with My Points, I have earned 41,606 Points, mostly by opening emails. It is by far the easiest money I have made! You can redeem points for for Gift Cards to stores & restaurants like Marshalls/TJ Maxx, Olive Garden, GAP, Home Depot, Rain Forest Cafe, Target & Macaroni Grill! To start you off, they will give you 100 FREE points!

In order to avoid having too much sent to your personal email account, I suggest opening an email account just for survey sites. I hope you find this information helpful and that you too will be able to earn some extra money through survey sites! While I do make a commission on a few of the sites listed, all opinions are strictly my own and based on my personal experience. I would never suggest anything to my readers that I didn’t in fact try myself.

12 Ways to Increase Your Income in 2012

by Kristi on January 1, 2012

If you are looking to increase your supplemental income in 2012, there are a few ways you can do it. Most of these ways don’t involve much time and none of them require you to spend a dime or give any credit card information. If sites ever do ask you to do something like that, then most likely they are scams. Here is my list of favorite sites that have brought me a little (or a lot) of extra money this past year:

1. Survey Sites. Simply answer questions about products you normally buy and get paid for your time. Some take 1-2 minutes, while others may take about 15. I usually do surveys while I am watching TV at night. You may find my list of favorite survey sites helpful.

2. Swagbucks. All you have to do is use Swagbucks as your search engine and you will start earning points that you can use on Gift Cards. Before signing up, you might want to read more about how Swagbucks works.

3. Expo/ Tryology. Through Expo, you can do video testimonials about products and get points for each one you do. Videos are about 1 minute in length and are super easy to upload. Use the points you accrue to earn Gift Cards. Tryology is their sister company and they do product trials!

4. Demand Media. Write articles on topics you are familiar with and get paid for doing it based on how many people read them.

5. My Points. Simply get paid to read advertisements. My Points will send you offers via email and you get points just for reading the offers. Turn those points into Gift Cards! For this one, I suggest opening a separate email account.

6. Sweepstakes/ Giveaways. There are a  TON of blogs out there running giveaways. You can find a great list each Saturday on my blog.  You can win everything from products to gift cards! I cannot even begin to list all of the items I won this past year (but it did include a $150 Talbots Gift Card).

7. Research Studies/ Online Focus Groups.  There are numerous market research companies out there that do research studies and many are now branching out to online studies as well. Most of these companies will compensate you either by check, paypal or with gift cards. If you live in the Raleigh area, feel free to contact me & I will tell you my local favorites.

8. Amazon. Do you have old books, DVDs or video games lying around  the house? Use Amazon to get them sold and to get money in your pocket! They have a new program called Fulfillment by Amazon that has been extremely profitable for me this past year. It is a great way to sell new products you find on sale for a profit.  I will be writing more about this in 2012.

9. Craigslist. If you have small children, you know how quickly all those toys and baby gear can accumulate through your home. To make extra cash, consider selling it on Craigslist.

10. eBay. You would be surprised at how many things you have in your home could be making you money if you were only selling them on eBay. Old clothes, toys, electronics, etc. can all bring in some extra money. Just check out all the things I sell on eBay. Don’t want to hassle with going to the post office, read my post about how to ship items without leaving your home.

11. Online Shopping Sites. If you shop online, you should be doing it through a site like Ebates which will pay you a percentage of your purchase price back. All you are doing is using them as the conduit between you and the store in which you are shopping which is like earning FREE money on your purchase.

12. Yard sale. If you have accumulated too much stuff and want to get rid of it, there is no easier way than to have a garage sale. Yard sales/ Garage Sales will bring you extra cash and help you eliminate clutter all at the same time. Not sure where to start?  Be sure to read my tips on how to have a successful yardsale.

Believe me, I wouldn’t tell you to sign up for something without first doing it myself. Swagbucks is safe and the easiest way to earn a little play money!

Ways to Make Extra Christmas Shopping Money

by Kristi on November 26, 2011

It is never too early to start putting money away for Christmas shopping! In fact, I began saving money for 2011 in January (remember my 11 ways to make money  in 2011 post?).  If you are looking for ways to make a little extra money  here are a few ideas that should help you get started now:

1. If you are doing any online shopping between now & Christmas, be sure you are taking advantage of Ebates. Ebates will give you a percentage of your money back each time to shop. This can add up fast and they will pay you in cash.

2. Start using Swagbucks when you do online searches. The results are similar to Google and you will earn points to trade for gift cards like Amazon.com and Disney Store! You can read more about using Swagbucks HERE.

3. Survey sites are a great way to earn money. I do the surveys at night while I am watching TV. They are super easy to do and you can either make cash or exchange for gift cards.

4. If you have a webcam or a video camera, you can earn money by making short 1-2 minute videos explaining your opinion on products you already own in you home through Expo.

5. Earn money through MyPoints by simply opening emails.  My Points will send you offers and will give you points for simply opening the email. These points can be exchanged for gift cards. You get more points if you make purchases through MyPoints, but you don’t have to make any purchases at all!

Referral links are my own. You can read more about them HERE.

Monetizing Your Blog with Advertising Companies

by Kristi on September 24, 2011

Many people email me questions about how I got started blogging and if I make any money for the work I put into it.  The truth is that I made very little money my first year blogging. In my second year of blogging I moved from Blogger to WordPress and  learned how to make money blogging. While I get most of my income from product testing and product reviews, I also earn money through advertising affiliate programs.

Affiliate programs are in essence advertisers who use blogs as a way to promote products or services. The compensation the blogger receives is based on the actions of the readers; per-click (the reader clicks on a link), per-lead (the reader signs up or registers through a link) or per-sale (the reader makes a purchase through a link).

Before you place any ad on your blog, you should follow these simple steps:

  • Read all terms & conditions prior to placing any affiliates link on your website, as different sponsors have different guidelines as to what is acceptable. This is very important if you blog feeds into Twitter or Facebook.
  • Choose ads that are related to your blog’s niche. One thing I pride myself in is that I don’t promote any site/ product that I wouldn’t use myself.
  • Place ads where they will be most visible (above the fold is optimal).
  • Avoid too many ads. It turns off readers, slows your blogs loading speed (bad SEO) and just looks plain junkie!
  • Disclose, Disclose, Disclose! It is the law.

This is my list of favorite advertising affiliate companies:

  • Commission Junction- One of the leaders in advertising, they offer ads for some of the larger chain stores like Gap, Old Navy, Disney Store and many more. You must apply to each store individually, which can be time consuming, and you won’t be accepted into them all. You can chose your payout: $50 for Direct Deposite & $100 for Check.
  • Escalate Media- This is one of my favorite ad sites. Escalate updates offers frequently & will email you when new ads are available & will show you which deals are converting best on your site. Their payout threshold is  and you can be paid through Paypal or by check.
  • Google Adsense – Probably my most profitable of all ad sites, Google allows you to customize the size of ads that you use & typically places ads that targeted to your niche. Minimum payout threshold is $100 & they will pay you via paypal.
  • Google Affiliate Network- One of the largest ad networks available, Google Affiliates carries Target and many other retailers! Although they tie into Google Adsense for payment, you must apply through Google Affiliate Network separately.
  • Lijit- One of the newer companies, Lijit runs ads that are tailored to fit with your niche. They have a variety of ad sizes as well as a search ad function. While they do ads, they also do much, much more so be sure to check them out! Payout is a low $25 and they will pay via Paypal.
  • LinkShare.com- Like Commission Junction, Linkshare forces you to apply to each company individually.  You will find top retailers like Crocs, The Body Shop and BabiesRus. LinkShare pays once per month as low as $1. Payments are either through Direct Deposit or via Check.
  • My Savings Media- Many of the deals that you will find on My Savings Media can also be found on Escalate, but there are a few that are unique to My Savings Media. With a payout of $50, you will be paid by check.
  • shareasale.com- While ShareaSale isn’t as large as many of the others, they do have quite a marketable area when it comes to magazine sales! Like Commission Junction and LinkShare, you will need to apply to stores individually. Payment threshold is $50 and they pay by check.
  • Social Spark- Get paid to write sponsored blog posts. You get to chose the ones you want to write about and get paid in a points system. Writing 1-2 will give you enough points to cash out.
  • Sponsered Tweets- Get paid to Tweet about things your followers might be interested in. Pays cash!

Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions about any of the above companies.

Affiliate links maybe contained in this post.

Do You Have Unclaimed Money?

by Kristi on August 27, 2011

Did you know that there is nearly 32 million dollars in unclaimed money from residents of the United States? How crazy would it be if you had money out there that you didn’t know about? It is definitely a possibility.  How does this happen? People move and don’t always leave a forwarding address. This makes it difficult for companies or money institutions to find you in the event that you are owed a refund or a paycheck. Sometimes family members pass away and leave money to beneficiaries who aren’t easily trackable.

According to MissingMoney.org,  some of the most common types of unclaimed property include:

  • Bank accounts and safe deposit box contents
  • Stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and dividends
  • Uncashed checks and wages
  • Insurance policies, CD’s, trust funds
  • Utility deposits, escrow accounts

There are two sites that can help you find out if you are one of those 32 million:

  • Unclaimed.org is one site that helps reunite people with their unclaimed money. Click your state and you’ll be taken to that state’s unclaimed money site. Remember to check all states that you have lived in.
  • MissingMoney.com is another useful site site where you can do a simple search to see if you have unclaimed funds. Simply plug in your full name along with your state. I would recommend trying both your married and maiden name. Not all states are listed in their system (including NC).

I wasn’t able to find any lost money, but I’m sure some of you will! Let me know if you do!

August is a great month to find back to school clothes bargains and it is also a great time to cash in on your child’s out grown clothes and shoes. While selling gently used clothes and shoes on eBay is a great way to make a little extra money to put away for this year’s wardrobe, it isn’t the only way. Here is a list of other ways to make some cash off your child’s outgrown items:

  • Craigslist. The best way to sell clothing on Craigslist is to put clothes in lots according to size. Be sure to take great pictures and let buyers know exactly what is included.
  • Consignment Shops. While consignment shops won’t pay you top dollar for your items, many will offer you considerably more money in in-store credit. Consider this if you already shop at consignment stores.
  • Garage sale. Molly Gold from Go Mom had a great idea on how to throw a themed “Back to School” garage sale to get rid of some things in her garage. Before you start planning, be sure to read my tips on how to have a successful yard sale so you will get the most for your items.
  • Swap. Invite friends over and arrange your own clothes swap event! No money has to ever change hands and you will be able to get rid of some of your own old items while getting new-to-you items for your child the same day!  Don’t have friends or the time? Use a service like Thred Up that allows you to send in a box of your child’s old things in exchange, you will get a box from someone else!

Creative Ways to Bring in Income

by Kristi on June 28, 2011

As many of you know, I stopped teaching in 2009 so that I could spend more time with my children.  I loved my career, but found that it wasn’t as “family friendly” as I had hoped it would be. While teachers in my state (NC) don’t get paid that much, being without my salary did put a financial strain on my household. It was then that I decided that I had to get creative and find a way to bring in extra money.

I had done direct sales in the past and while some people do really well with it, my personality didn’t allow me to effectively orchestrate a sales pitch that worked.

I scoured the internet looking for other work from home opportunities, but nothing really seemed either legit or would fit into my schedule.  That is when I decided to take something that I loved to do (bargain shop) and turn it into a job.

What do I do? I purchase items at thrift stores and yard sales and resell them on eBay! I’m not talking nickle and dime junk that will only fetch a dollar or two profit, I am talking name brand items.

After two years of building my eBay business, I now steadily bring in thousands of dollars a month and see my profits steadily grow each month.  It has been a blessing.

I know there are others out there who are feeling the impacts of the harsh economy and trying to find creative ways to increase their income.

I’d love to hear what ways you are getting creative to bring in extra money.
