For many years I made traditional resolution lists for things I wanted to change in the new year: lose weight, eat less fast food, stop wasting money, etc. But then as months progressed, I often found myself reverting back to old habits. Perhaps it is because they were too vague, or maybe it was because I had lost my enthusiasm. Whatever the reason, making a list of things for me to change just didn’t work.
This year, instead of making a list of things I want to change in 2011, I made a vision board of the things I would like to see happen in the new year. Never heard of a vision board? They are quite easy to make. Simply cut out pictures, phrases, words that encapsulate some goal you have for the future and glue them to a board. Place the board in a spot where you will be able to see it daily. The more you are able to visualize your goals, the more likely you will turn them into a reality.
You’ll notice on my board that I have phrases, words, pictures and symbols to express goals that I am setting for myself. Some are simple~ Read more, drop 5lbs, take a trip to Disney; others are a bit more complex~ find confidence, express my creative side, find peace within myself. The possibilities for vision boards are endless.
The best part of creating a vision board is the self reflection and analysis. Creating the board forces you to have to think about where you are now and where you hope to be by the end of the year. You may even find yourself adding to the board as the year goes on. I am a work in progress, so my vision board is as well.
Have you ever created a vision board? Did you find that many of the items on your board came into fruition?
